The United States has implemented reciprocal tariff measures, with many considerations behind them such as shifts in production locations and exchange rates, bringing uncertainty to the global economic environment. What ongoing impact does this have on the panel industry?

Entering May, demand for TV panels has gradually weakened. Brand customers, faced with rising inventory levels, have been adjusting their orders accordingly, demanding panel manufacturers to make price concessions to partially offset the cost pressures caused by increased tariffs. This helps support promotional activities during the peak season in the second half of the year. However, with weakening demand, panel manufacturers have started a series of capacity adjustment measures in hopes of stabilizing panel prices. It is expected that there will be a tug-of-war between buyers and sellers over TV panel prices. TrendForce Research Vice President Bo-Yu Fan estimates that TV panel prices in May will strive to remain flat.

Monitor panels have maintained strong shipment momentum due to tariff-related issues. Some brand customers aim to increase inventory before the expiration of the three-month tariff exemption, while others actively expand into non-U.S. regional markets, driving increased panel demand. It is forecasted that monitor panel prices in May will continue to rise, with Open Cell panels expected to increase by $0.20. Among panel modules, 21.5-inch and 27-inch sizes are expected to rise by $0.10, while the 23.8-inch size, which has better demand, is expected to increase by $0.20.

Regarding laptop panels, some brand customers occasionally place urgent orders. However, as brand customers’ deployment in Southeast Asia varies, additional order demand is unstable. Only a noticeably stronger stocking momentum in Q2 compared to the Q1 off-season has been observed, with most maintaining normal stocking rhythms. Panel manufacturers understand the changing market demand but worry that uncertainties in tariff policies and cost increases due to production relocation in the second half of the year could dampen promotional efforts and freeze overall demand. Under this pessimistic outlook, panel manufacturers dare not boldly request price increases for laptop panels and aim to maintain stable customer relationships; therefore, laptop panel prices remain flat.
