Elan Microelectronics announced today its collaboration with E Ink to launch a new touch technology tailored for e-book applications. Featuring AI trajectory prediction, noise suppression, and low-power consumption technologies, the new solution significantly enhances product performance and user experience while boosting market competitiveness. The results will be showcased at the 2025 Touch Taiwan Smart Display Exhibition.
Elan stated that it has been actively expanding into the e-book market in recent years, having successfully partnered with two of the world’s top three brands—reMarkable and Kobo—and entered the Chinese market via a collaboration with Boox. These partnerships utilize E Ink’s 13.3-inch color e-paper displays, helping Elan broaden market penetration. Mass production and shipment have already begun, injecting new momentum into the company's operational growth.
Elan pointed out that its capacitive touch solution offers advantages over traditional electromagnetic resonance (EMR) technology, including a thinner form factor, higher linearity, lower cost, and a more comprehensive supply chain. It also supports multiple active stylus protocols and delivers a report rate of up to 500Hz, ensuring smoother handwriting performance. International brand reMarkable has already transitioned from EMR to Elan’s capacitive solution.
Elan further shared that it has integrated AI technology across its full range of touch controller ICs. For capacitive active pen applications, it has developed an AI-based trajectory prediction algorithm that effectively reduces writing latency on e-books, bringing the stylus experience closer to that of pen-on-paper. The technology supports devices up to 13.3 inches, meeting the market's growing demand for large-format e-readers.
As consumers continue to own more electronic devices, battery life has become a critical factor in purchasing decisions. Elan emphasized that its low-power technology significantly improves the battery performance of e-book devices. This advantage strengthens brand loyalty among e-book manufacturers, enabling partners to strike the ideal balance between high performance and long battery life.
The color e-book market has attracted increasing attention in recent years. Elan believes that its noise suppression technology dramatically reduces ghosting and artifacts during screen refreshes, delivering a superior reading experience for content such as comics, novels, textbooks, and illustrations. This technology goes beyond industry standards, reinforcing Elan's competitive edge and cementing its position as a technological leader in the market.
