Innolux and Chi Mei Hospital have jointly developed Taiwan's first domestic "Smart Chemotherapy Dispensing Robot Arm," which has successfully dispensed 1,000 chemotherapy prescriptions, covering about 70% of the hospital's chemotherapy prescription needs. This innovation improves the precision and efficiency of chemotherapy drug dispensing while integrating AI technology into healthcare.

The system features a precision measurement system and intelligent dispensing software, utilizing multi-drug AI image recognition to accurately verify drug ingredients and dosages, while minimizing drug waste during the dispensing process.
Additionally, the device has a large drug loading capacity and fast dispensing speed, significantly improving efficiency. By using universal consumables, it helps reduce hospital operational costs. Developed and manufactured locally in Taiwan, it offers quick maintenance and technical support. Compared to foreign competitors, this device is smaller, lighter, and its modular design is not restricted by existing medical space, offering greater flexibility in transport and installation.
"Innolux’s IAS BU (Intelligent Automatic Solutions Business Unit) is responsible for the development and system integration of the AI robotic arm," said Innolux's General Manager and COO, Yang Zhuxiang. "In areas like smart pharmacies and drug warehouse management, AI algorithms upgrade static images to dynamic image recognition, ensuring drug identification accuracy. Our subsidiary, Ruisheng Optoelectronics, focuses on AI image learning and hardware-software integration, building a complete smart healthcare industry value chain."
"Chi Mei Hospital and Innolux will continue to advance medical automation technology research and development, expanding the application of robotic arms in various medical fields, including chemotherapy and drug dispensing," said Chi Mei Hospital's Director, Lin Hongrong.
Innolux and Chi Mei Hospital's collaboration dates back to 2022, when they jointly developed a smart vaccine dose dispenser and BNT vaccine bottle turnover machine, using technology to assist in epidemic prevention. Now, with the smart chemotherapy dispensing robot arm’s automation and AI precision dispensing technology, the hospital has significantly improved drug dispensing accuracy, while effectively reducing the risks of microbial contamination and human error.
The smart chemotherapy dispensing robot arm has seven key features: safety, precision dispensing, traceability management, increased efficiency, reduced labor burden, reduced drug waste, and enhanced infection control. It received attention at the Taiwan Medical Technology Exhibition last year and is now used at Chi Mei Hospital to accurately handle chemotherapy prescription dispensing, relieving pharmacists of some of their duties.
