The tariff policies of the Trump administration continue to impact the direction of panel manufacturers and brand customers. As we enter June, how have panel prices changed?
The demand for TV panels is weakening. Brand customers have been continuously placing orders since the first quarter, leading to an increase in inventory levels. Starting in the second quarter, they hope to adjust procurement strategies more flexibly to negotiate with panel manufacturers, aiming to secure more price discounts or MDF (market development funds), and gain more operational space for the upcoming promotional season in the second half of the year. Although panel manufacturers have attempted to maintain supply and demand balance through capacity adjustments, under the pressure of weakening demand, some manufacturers have shown goodwill by releasing certain panel price reductions to stabilize customer relationships.
TrendForce Research VP, Fan Boyu, observes that TV panel prices are expected to remain stable in June, but due to continued pressure from buyers, there is a possibility that prices for certain sizes may slightly drop.
In the case of monitor panels, due to the stimulus from tariffs, brand customers have maintained an aggressive stockpiling attitude for several months. As inventory levels increased entering June, the momentum of brand orders began to slow down. With the weakening demand for TV panels, the pressure of price declines has emerged, which has also begun to influence the price trends of monitor panels. Currently, most panel manufacturers remain cautious about the idea of further price increases, and given the adjustment of demand from brand customers, they are unlikely to accept continuous price hikes. It is expected that in June, the prices of monitor panels will stabilize.
In the second quarter, the demand for laptop panels remained steady. Initially, brand customers were pessimistic about the second half of the year, and their attitude towards panel orders became more conservative. However, recently, brand customers have become more optimistic about the momentum for the third quarter, and visibility is better than it was when tariffs were first announced in early April. Even so, panel manufacturers remain cautious about future demand changes and are reluctant to propose price increases. They are even willing to offer off-table price discounts to maintain customer relationships. It is currently expected that laptop panel prices will remain stable in June.
