Huawei launched its first tri-fold device, the Mate XT, in the Chinese market last year, sparking a wave of global discussion. When fully folded, the screen size is similar to that of a regular smartphone, but when fully unfolded, it transforms into a 10.2-inch tablet. It is rumored that this product will be released in international markets within this year. Earlier rumors also suggested that Samsung Electronics is developing its own tri-fold device, with the latest information indicating that the company plans to name it the Galaxy G Fold.
According to renowned South Korean tech blogger yeux1122, Samsung's tri-fold device will be named the Galaxy G Fold. This device folds inward from both sides, differing from Huawei’s tri-fold folding mechanism. The Galaxy G Fold measures 9.96 inches in width and 6.54 inches in height. Leaks suggest that its weight will be similar to the Mate XT, around 298 grams, which is 36.7 grams heavier than the Galaxy S25 Ultra (218 grams).
It’s expected that the Galaxy G Fold will be 31.3% heavier than the iPhone 16 Pro Max, which weighs 227 grams.
The Galaxy G Fold folds inward from both the left and right sides. When fully folded, this design provides some protection for the large internal display. On the back, there’s a smaller screen that allows users to perform basic tasks without unfolding the device completely. This design also helps keep the phone’s overall thickness under 1 millimeter.
As for pricing, the Galaxy G Fold will undoubtedly be a high-end device. The 256GB Galaxy Z Fold6 is priced at $1,899.99 (NT$59,888 in Taiwan), suggesting that the Galaxy G Fold could be priced between $2,500 and $3,000 (approximately NT$78,208–93,850). For comparison, the starting price of the Huawei Mate XT is 19,999 RMB (around NT$86,108).
