Hannstar announced today (9th) that it is working with 12 panel industry suppliers to participate in the "Subsidy for Low-Carbon and Smart Upgrade Transformation of Large and Small Manufacturing Industries" project of the Industrial Development Bureau of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and has obtained subsidies. The plan includes upstream equipment and component suppliers, midstream panel and module manufacturers, and downstream end product application companies, working together to promote low-carbon transformation and strengthen the sustainable competitiveness of the panel industry.
Chen Guoxuan, the head of the Industrial Development Administration, MOEA, led a team to attend the "Large Lead Small" initiation meeting of Hannstar. Chen Guoxuan, stated that reducing carbon emissions in the industry is one of the key factors in achieving global net zero carbon emissions by 2050. Therefore, the Ministry of Economic Affairs is promoting the upgrade and transformation of industries and small and medium-sized enterprises to strengthen the economic resilience and competitiveness of enterprises. He thanked Hannstar for leading its suppliers in reducing carbon emissions from the research and development end, promoting efficient and low-pollution green production, and investing in energy saving and carbon reduction projects, as well as actively promoting the sustainable development and management of the supply chain, using its own sustainable leadership to drive the supply chain to promote low-carbon manufacturing.
Industrial Development Administration, MOEA is pleased to see the new prospects of Hannstar and its suppliers promoting the low-carbon transformation of the industry. In the future, it will use diversified policy resources and more efficient methods to promote the collaborative cooperation of the industry supply chain, further achieving carbon reduction goals.
By taking the lead to improve carbon reduction cooperation with suppliers, the total carbon reduction amount can reach 7,041.8 metric tons.
Wu Xuhe, the vice general manager of Hannstar stated that in response to the global trend of achieving net zero carbon emissions and meeting the requirements of international customers, Hannstar is leading its supply chain partners to strengthen ESG management and promote carbon reduction transformation, exerting influence in the value chain to strive for the net zero goal by 2050. By joining hands with the supply chain to promote low-carbonization, with the assistance of the "Large Lead Small" project, it will guide the suppliers in carbon mana
gement, share new knowledge and practical experiences in carbon reduction, grasp the carbon emissions hotspots in the supply chain, formulate carbon reduction plans, and work together with 12 suppliers to connect the industry supply chain to achieve the goal of low-carbon transformation.
The project mainly focuses on four areas, including: establishing a digital sustainable management platform to accurately assess the greenhouse gas emissions of Hannstar and its suppliers, focusing on the greenhouse gas emissions of the product line; optimizing product design and low-carbon process technology, introducing low-temperature materials and reducing thinning processes to track the carbon footprint generated during the product life cycle; implementing energy monitoring and management systems at the production line through the purchase of new equipment and the replacement of existing equipment to improve energy use efficiency; and sustainable supply chain collaboration, conducting greenhouse gas emission assessments and energy management planning with the supply chain. The "Large Lead Small" project is expected to achieve a total carbon reduction amount of 7,041.8 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) starting in 2025, equivalent to the carbon absorption capacity of 18 Daan Forest Parks for one entire year, and the carbon reduction benefits will increase annually.
Hannstar continues to develop display products and services that are more environmentally and socially beneficial, and in 2023 to 2024, it received the EcoVadis Gold Medal, TCSA Sustainability Report Gold Award, and the "no risk" ESG risk rating from the global rating agency Sustainalytics. In addition, Hannstar Foundation has collaborated with 18 schools to promote projects such as "Eco School" and "Technology Innovation and Sustainable Education," helping over 5,800 students learn how to use digital technology to become environmental activists.
